Rashean Mathis JAC 8 Denver @ Buffalo: While Champ Bailey and Dre Bly are expected to slow him down this week WR Lee Evans led all NFL pass-catchers with 735 receiving yards in the last 7 games of the 2006 season (105.0 yds/game). Tennessee @ Jacksonville The combination of Garrard, Jones-Drew, and Taylor should gring it out again this year... The Jaguars rushing attack set a franchise record in 2006 and ranked third (2,541 yards) in the NFL last season. Miami @ Washington The Dolphins defense boasts a tackling machine in Zach Thomas, but take notice that Ladell Betts led NFC with 666 rush yards in December of 2006. Carolina @ St. Louis The last time these two teams met Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams ran for 114 yards. New England @ NY Jets Pennington averaged 258 yards passing in three contests against New England last year. We're betting that Bill Belichick will focus on limiting Penny's effectiveness. Atlanta @ Minnesota Tarvaris Jackson is making just his third career start. We're expecting the Vikings to try to grind this game out. Pittsburgh @ Cleveland Big Ben Roethlisberger, an Ohio native, has never lost to the Browns, he's 5-0 in his career. Philadelphia @ Green Bay If Brett Favre can win this game he will be tied with John Elway for the most career victories by a QB with 148. KC @ Houston Third-round pick WR Jacoby Jones is expected to start at WR. He led the Texans with 11 receptions for 139 yds (12.6 avg.) with two TDs & returned two punts for TDs in preseason. He's a deep sleeper worth keeping an eye on. Tampa Bay @ Seattle The Buccaneers will travel approximately 2500 miles for this game. Expect some jet lag! Okay, we have to be able to do better than that. How about this: DJ Hackett scored a TD in the last meeting of these two teams on New Years Eve last year. Chicago @ SD The Bears finished 5th in overall defense last year allowing only 4706 yards, while the Chargers finished 10th, allowing 4825 yards. Expect a low-scoring game. Detroit @ Oakland Oakland's defense ranked 3rd in the NFL last year, while their offense ranked 32nd and a distant 32nd at that! Detroit's defense ranked 28th, but their offense at least ranked 22nd. NY Giants @ Dallas TO has caught 12 TDs in his last 12 games. We'd bet that he makes it 13 for 13 this week. Baltimore @ Cincinnati Rudi Johnson has scored one TD in three consecutive season openers. Arizona @ SF Frank Gore scored 2 TDs in each of his meetings with the Cardinals last year. |==================================================| 6. Recent NFL Headlines / Injury News |==================================================| * Check out our latest Headlines * - http://www.askthecommish.com/headlines/index.asp Here are some recent headlines that could be of interest to you: Lions | Kevin Jones healed, but needs to get in shape Sat, Sep 8 @ 20:10 PM EST Kevin Jones says that he's healed, but now that he needs to get into football shape. He's not setting a time table for his return just yet. Click this link to listen to the audio. - http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2007/09/jones_on_wdfn_im_not_putting_d.html Falcons | Falcons TE Crumpler might miss opener Sat, Sep 8 @ 10:37 AM EST Crumpler has been slowed by a knee injury and may no tbe able to play this week. Watch his status carefully, but we suggest you find a better bet at TE because you risk a goose egg if you start him. - http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/story/10337122/rss Broncos | Broncos' Bell Attempting To Adjust To New Role Sat, Sep 8 @ 10:37 AM EST Mike Bell is disappointed that he has been moved to fullback, he'd rather play tailback. His role in the offense has not quite been worked out, but we wouldn't be surprised to see him get a handful of carries. - http://cbs4denver.com/broncos/local_story_250071754.html Redskins | Portis Ready to Go Sat, Sep 8 @ 8:21 AM EST Clinton Portis said that he is ready to go for this week's game and that he feels no discomfort and has no limitations in practice. He expects to get the start, but mentions that Betts will spell him. Our take is that Betts will see 50% of the carries. - http://www.redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=28888 Cowboys | Cowboys: Glenn sidelined for at least 2 weeks Sat, Sep 8 @ 8:21 AM EST Terry Glenn will miss at least 2 weeks in his attempt to recover from offseason knee surgery. Patrick Crayton will start in his place. - http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/football/nfl/cowboys/stories/MYSA090707.WEBCowboysGlenn.en.ab98655e.html Vikings | Williamson believes drops are behind him - Pioneer Press Sat, Sep 8 @ 8:21 AM EST Troy Williamson thinks that his case of the dropsies are over and that he'll have a rebound season this year. If this is the case, it would be good news for Tarvaris Jackson as he needs help from his WR crew. - http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_6831735?nclick_check=1 Lions | Duckett, Bell expected to split carries Thu, Sep 6 @ 8:03 AM EST TJ Duckett has impressed the Lions with his versatility and as a result should get a solid share of carries in the Lions offense until at least Kevin Jones is set to return. Duckett is a decent play because he should be the Lions primary goal line back. - http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2007/09/lions_may_rotate_bell_duckett.html |==================================================| 7. Stock Up / Down |==================================================| * STOCK UP: QB Josh McCown (OAK) * McCown is expected to start for the Raiders this week and against his former team, the Detroit Lions. He'll surely be used to how soft the pass coverage is. * STOCK DOWN: RB DeAngelo Williams (CAR) * It looks like Foster will start for the Panthers and his style lends itself a bit better to the Panthers running scheme. That means that Williams owners will likely have to be patient and wait for a Foster injury in waiting for him to breakout. * STOCK UP: WR Maurice Stovall (TB) * Stovall was named the starter for Tampa Bay opposite Galloway. This means that he's worth keeping an eye on as a potential waiver-wire pick-up as a deep sleeper WR. * STOCK DOWN: TE Alge Crumpler (ATL) Crumpler was Vick's favorite target, but that was then and this is now! Crumpler may not be able to go this week. Furthermore, Joey Harrington's presence and Bobby Petrino's offense may mean slightly diminished numbers from the big TE anyway. * STOCK UP: K Nick Folk (DAL) * Folk will have the luxury of kicking for the Cowboys this year with Gramatica on IR. He's a kicker that's worth keeping an eye on if you have a marginal starting fantasy kicker. * College Football * STOCK UP: LSU dominated Virginia Tech last night and made it clear that they're a bona fide National Title contender. Then again, the Hokies did struggle against East Carolina in their emotional season opener. STOCK DOWN: Michigan Wolverines. Hail to the victors? First Appalachian State comes into the Big House and hands UofM their third-straight loss. Next, the Ducks from Oregon come into the Big House and hand Michigan their lunch in a blowout win. UofM hasn't won a game since Bo Schembechler's passing. |==================================================| 8.
