It almost seems like sacrilege to put #4 on the list, especially to start the season. However, he has a number of things stacked up against him. First, Donald Driver is banged up with a foot injury. Second, the Philly defense has really done a number on Favre in recent years. In fact, Favre has historically been awful against the Eagles. Favre has also been a notoriously slow starter over the years. In fact, in his last four opening day games (dating back to 2003), Favre has thrown a combined 2 TD passes and turned the ball over 9 times! He’s also averaged less than 200 yards passing in each of those games. Bottom line, look elsewhere for a starting QB in Week 1.

Start Matt Leinart vs San Francisco

The Arizona/San Francisco contest on Monday night looks to be a shootout. Maybe Ken Whisenhunt will try to emphasize the running game more than Dennis Green did, but the fact remains that the Cardinals personnel dictates that they are a pass-first offense. Matt Leinart will certainly have plenty of opportunities to sling the ball around against a San Francisco defense that allowed the 4th most passing TDs in the league last season. Yes, we know that the Niners have tried to upgrade their defense, most obviously by bringing in Nate Clements from Buffalo. However, Clements can’t cover BOTH Fitzgerald AND Boldin, can he? Look for the hype surrounding Leinart to intensify after his strong fantasy showing against the 49ers on Monday night.

Running Backs

Sit Thomas Jones vs Miami

The Patriots only gave up 11 TDs on the ground last season and less than 100 yards rushing per game (ranked 5th in the NFL) and 7th in fantasy points allowed to RBs. Furthermore, you must realize that Thomas Jones just returned to practice this week after straining his calf and you see why we think that the Patriots should keep Jones at bay.

Wide Receivers

Sit Lee Evans vs Seattle

Setting your lineup in week 1 is always tough, but for the most part, you need to stick to your guns and go with the guys that you drafted to start. However, if you have a really deep roster or have viable options behind some of your projected starters, there are a few matchups to keep an eye on. Here's an excellent case:

A lot of fantasy owners are putting a lot of faith in Evans, whose end of the year numbers always come out quite well. However, those of us who have owned Evans have been frustrated by his lack of consistency. He’s the only viable receiving threat on the Bills’ team, and he’s facing Champ Bailey this week. That’s not a great recipe for success this week, especially when you consider that Denver traded for Dre Bly to upgrade their corner position. That's scary because the Broncos finished 3rd in Passing TDs allowed in 2006. If you have good depth at WR, you might want to give Evans a week to break your lineup.

Start Braylon Edwards vs Dallas

Braylon Edwards turned in two really nice performances against the Steelers last year with a 7 catch, 137 yard game and a 4 catch 86 yard game with a TD. Being that the Steelers defense is still a bit suspect, they really didn't upgrade their secondary which ranked 28th in fantasy points allowed to WRs, we say start Braylon Edwards this week.

Tight Ends

Sit Alge Crumpler vs Jacksonville

Crumpler will likely miss Vick. Harrington will likely miss Crumpler (in terms of being able to complete passes to Crumpler). Look for Crumpler to slide back down in the TE rankings this year and have a slow start to his season this week.

Yes, we know that we told you that Vince Young should have a poor week, but Scaife should be his leading pass-catcher this week. If Young is to toss a TD, we'd put our money on Scaife.
