I am usually the guy that always drafts 2 RB in the 1st 3 rounds if not the first two rounds. However, this year it was time to change my strategy. The RBBC is taking over in the NFL, so there is a premium on every down backs. There are about 10-12 of these guys out there. With LJ, wrapped up I decided to draft 2 stud WRs in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. I saw more value with these guys versus the RBs that were left, so this was the year to break my fantasy strategy. Of course, that left me in a scramble to find a 2nd RB (or at least a potential 2nd RB) in the next 4 rounds. It may have cost me a solid position player at WR or QB, but this is a best ball format league, and RB production is crucial. I still landed a top TE in Witten to go along with 3 QBs that should be serviceable. Especially with this league format, 1 of them should have a good game. Defensive teams and Kickers are a free for all, so I see little difference in many of those positions. I feel that I found top talent at each position.
I am Most Proud Of:
Obviously, Larry Johnson. He could carry me to the playoffs on his own. I also liked getting the double dip in the 8th and 9th round by drafting Bledsoe and Witten. After using rounds 4-7 on RBs, I was able to fill 2 needs with solid players that should have been taken earlier in the 7th round.
Here's Who I Reached on:
Drafting LenDale White in the 7th round was early, but I had to secure a RB positon of another team. It cost me Jake Delhomme, which would have solidified my QB position, but I will need to start 2 RBs each week and only 1 QB. Bush will share time and is an unproven RB, but he should get touches and be fairly productive with those touches. Foster has health concerns, which was all the more reason why I needed to load up on RBs in the middle rounds.
My Overall Feeling About My Draft:
I love the potential that my team has. Larry Johnson, Larry Fizgerald, and Marvin Harrison were in the top 20 in non-QB scoring in 2005. That is taking into consideration that Johnson didn't start, but half the season, and Marvin basically missed the last 2 games. Stokely, Edwards and White will solidify my 3rd WR spot by committee. T.O. will improve Bledsoe's production, and Martz could make Kitna into a productive #2 Fantasy QB. Grossman is emergency value only. Furthermore, Witten and Alexander are in TE friendly offenses. Kickers and defense are a crapshoot, so who cares about these positions. I think I have a team that will contend for another title. With many thanks to LJ.
Which Owner (Other Than Yourself) Had The Best
Draft?
I really feel that all teams are pretty evenly matched. Each team had prety good drafts all around for the most part. I think Mike, Eric, Tim, and Trent are pretty solid top to bottom.
Which Owner (Other Than Yourself) Had The Worst
Draft?
It's tough to say, they all look pretty good to me. Don, Bryan and Paul may be a half step behind, but this is more from being victims of circumstance. Picking at slots 9-11 gives you a good RB, WR, QB in the first 2 rounds and then the talent pool drops considerably in the third. There appears to be a lot of parity in the league.
