Bryan Hughes, is another one of the three Ask The Commish.com founding fathers and Co-Owners. Many of you likely see him busy answering emails, maintaining the message
boards, and keeping up with the overall look of the site.
He's also responsible for our helping to put together
our Fantasy X's & O's segments with the lovely
Bonnie-Jill Laflin (2003) and Desiree Diaz (2004).
Bryan represented Ask The Commish.com in various expert leagues in 2003 and cleaned up on the competition. He led us to the titles in the Sonic Fantasy Sports Expert League, the IPL Sports Expert League, and the Real Time Fantasy Sports Expert League.
In 2004 Bryan led the Ask The Commish.com team to the
Dirty Dozen regular season league scoring title, but he
couldn't overcome the loss of his #1 RB, Priest Holmes,
in the playoffs.
Bryan Hughes' Bio:
After
realizing that so many fantasy sites were full of crap,
I got together with Al Lackner and Paul
Baitinger in 1999 and helped form Ask The Commish.com.
My involvement with the
site is sometimes touch-and-go, but I'm responsible for the Message Boards primarily. I also put together the
current Ask The Commish.com design, created of the Player Expected Output (PEO) estimates
on the Sit or Start and in our Premium Services email
responses. I have yet to get blasted for giving bad advice
(unless you count some schmuck who was upset when I
recommended starting Sean Dawkins over Peerless Price many
years ago). I hope to hear from each and
everyone of you during the fantasy football season.
Favorite Current Player: Ronde & Tiki Barber I have always liked both of the
Barbers, Ronde and Tiki. Both are class acts.
Favorite
Retired Player: Reggie White
I
agree with everything that he's ever said... anyone who
thinks that the Japanese can build a microwave into a
wristwatch has my vote.
My
Draft Philosophy:
When I learned that I was picking 10th this year, my draft philosophy became very simple: get a RB in the first round and then draft the best available player on the board moving forward. Quality, "known-commodity" RBs will be very hard to come by this year, so getting one early is crucial. I was also paying close attention to last year's stats and where the respective players rated based upon the scoring system. If a player was undeservedly slipping, I made it a point to pounce on him.
I am Most Proud Of:
Despite picking 10th, I was able to get 5 players (Brady, Jordan, Brunell, Moss, and Holt) that ranked in the Top 30 last year -- that's the most of any team drafting. Granted, Mark Brunell is unlikely to remain in the Top 30 this year, but Brady, Jordan, Moss, and Holt are reliable players and should serve as a cornerstone for my franchise.
Here's Who I Reached on:
I don't know that I reached on any particular player, but, if I had done things differently, I would've drafted Chris Chambers over Tom Brady in Round 3 and then grabbed Brady in Round 4 over Santana Moss. Paul was already set at QB with Peyton Manning and Al usually sticks to the GCAM rankings and likely noted that quality at the QB position was still good at that point. As a result, its unlikely that he would've drafted Brady at picks 3.12 or 4.01.
My Overall Feeling About My Draft:
Overall, I think I had a solid, albeit unspectacular, draft for someone drafting 10th. Since the league starts 3 WRs, I have a solid foundation with Holt, S. Moss, and Branch/Stallworth and LaMont Jordan could prove to be a major RB sleeper this season with Art Shell as the new HC in Oakland. Unfortunately, if anything happens to Jordan, I could be forced to make some tough decisions with respect to RB. McAllister, Greg Jones, and Cedric Houston do not represent a reliable set of backup RBs, which only emphasizes the need to acquire solid RBs early this season.
Which Owner (Other Than Yourself) Had The Best
Draft?
I agree with the consensus that Mark Cacko had a superb draft, but I wouldn't overlook Richardard Zigweid's draftboard. If Julius Jones can rebound, his team could be very tough. He has good depth at each position and no glaring weaknesses.
Which Owner (Other Than Yourself) Had The Worst
Draft?
While its impossible to know how things will turn out, Paul's team looks fairly shaky on paper. After his first two picks, there are notable question marks in each of the 3 major skill positions. However, drafting Todd Heap at 6.03 was an astute move and may prove to be a draft pick that could help round out an imbalanced roster.
