Topic: Peyton

In the interest of getting some football talk going again, I'm curious to know everyone's thoughts on Peyton?

Of course, being a Broncos fan and living in that general vicinity, all I hear is how awesome he's going to be and how great he looks and stuff.

I'm on the fence-If he's 90% of the Peyton we know and love, he'll be great, both for the Broncos and for fantasy.  He's got two very young (but talented) receivers to work with.  But I worry about Fox's influence on him.  And, of course, the injury, and how it will be when he gets drilled, because you know teams are going to be gunning for him.  However, his quick release has always been a decent form of protection, and you know he's not going to put himself in a position to get hit very often.

I think there are enough questions that I'll have him lower on my list than at least one person in the league and he probably won't have to be my worry.  But I'm very curious to know your thoughts.

Re: Peyton

Peyton is going to be the real wild card for most fantasy drafts.

The risks are too numerous (coming back from the neck injury, new team, new supporting cast, new coaches, etc.) to seriously consider drafting him as a top 5 fantasy QB, which is where he's been drafted for the last decade-plus. Of course, given that he IS Peyton Mannning, he merits strong consideration as a starting fantasy QB. That is why I see him ranked as anywhere from the 6th to the 12th fantasy QB overall, in the same general area as guys like his brother and Matt Ryan.

I suspect that as we get closer and closer to fantasy drafts, that his stock will rise as we continue to get glowing reports on him from training camp -- and watch as he finely maneuvers a vanilla offense in the preseason games. If you are the one that is all-in on Peyton and elect to invest a 2nd or 3rd round pick on him, just make sure that you draft a backup QB earlier than you normally would too just to hedge your bet.

Re: Peyton

My draft is an auction, I havn't determined what the value will be for him, but I'm guessing that he will go low as none of our guys like to spend $ on the QB for some reason, I'm hoping to get him for low$

Re: Peyton

I think he'll be fine... don't see why he wouldn't be great.  I don't think he'd play football if he wasn't at least 85% of what he used to be.
