Topic: Evan Royster...Sleeper?

What do you guys think of him going into 2012?

He finished 2011 with 2 very impressive 100 yard efforts to close the season, including starting over Roy Helu in week 17. (Helu still played and had 6 touches). In the final month of the season he had 5.9 yards a carry.

Even if it turns into a straight up RBBC as I predict I can envision both him and Helu putting up solid numbers sort of like Deangelo Williams/Jonathan Stewart. They are both adept at catching the ball and both really fit the shanny zone blocking scheme.

There's also a chance he barely sees the field at all because of shanihanigans or Helu just runs with his opportunity there. But then Helu also started to hit the rookie wall after only 3 starts last year and you gotta think the way they shuffle backs that the #2 guy there will get opportunities eventually.

I have him in a 12 team PPR keeper league where we keep 9 players and he sort of falls into that list of potential players I'd keep with my last spot. Do you think he will have RB3 round 9 redraft value? I don't have to make a decision until August but I'd like to gauge what my keepers look like for any trade talks.

Guys that are also in the running

Toby Gerhart (AD looks like he will be back for week 1 though...)
Michael Crabtree (would have easily been my last guy...til SF added Moss/Manningham/Jenkins)
Bernard Scott (played like total trash last season and is backup to BJGE now)
Leonard Hankerson (rumor has it they wanna start him and I like his potential but they added Garcon/Morgan so idk wtf is goin on there)
Kellen Winslow JR (TE is going to be very deep in this draft, he isn't anything special but is always good for 70 catches, but I also own Mike Williams and Vincent Jackson so that'd be 3 bucs)

Rashad Jennings (played well in 2010, I have MJD so he'd be a handcuff but also a guy with 1 year left on his deal that hopefully would find a nice landing spot. I kept him last year with MJD's overblown knee ailment and he promptly went on IR so it made me sour on the idea of doing it again).

Re: Evan Royster...Sleeper?

I would still keep Crabtree.  Obviously he hasn't lived up to the hype.  But he started to come on last half of the season and from what I have been hearing is he is healthy and will be participating in all offseason activity for the first time in his career.  Just think he still has the chance to turn into a solid keeper.  Something I don't think about any of your other options.

Re: Evan Royster...Sleeper?

I agree on Crabtree. I look at the players you have available and ask myself who would I draft if they were avaiable in the 9th round of a 12 teamer. The only one that makes that cut in my opinion is Crabtree. The others I would draft later. So keep Crabtree and if you have the bench space and feel the need, grab Royster with one of your later picks.

Re: Evan Royster...Sleeper?

Crabtree is a major bust. He is slow, can't run routes and he drops passes. He will be cut next year and will be real close to getting cut in training camp this year. I think Hankerson is the way to go on this list new QB will try to hook up with a young WR.

Re: Evan Royster...Sleeper?

And the Redskins bring back Hightower this weekend and make this thread mostly irrelevant now. Wonderful.

Re: Evan Royster...Sleeper?

I don't think so...I think Royster has more to offer than Hightower.  Of course drafting WAS RB's now is like drafting Patriot RB's...all roll of the dice.

Re: Evan Royster...Sleeper?

I ended up trading Gerhart and Hankerson and 4.12 (we keep 9 so essentially 13.12) for Robert Meachem and 7.08 (16.08 essentially).

I love Meachem's upside this season. Ran 4.39 at the combine with 6'2 size and catches 2/3 of his targets, if he gets featured as much as VJAX (and a 4 year $26M contract leads me to believe he will) I think he has a great shot at putting up WR2/3 numbers. Norv Turner has been going gaga over him in the media since he signed and there's not many offensive minds in the league I trust more than him.

As of right now I end up going into the draft with... (PPR, 1/10, 1 QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1K, 1DST)

QB Eli Manning
QB Michael Vick
RB Darren Mcfadden (I LOVE that Bush isn't there to vulture TDs anymore)
RB Maurice Jones-Drew
WR Vincent Jackson
WR Demaryius Thomas
WR Reggie Wayne
WR Robert Meachem
WR Mike Williams TBB (I have to keep him due to some wacky 3 year rookie tag rule in our league)

1.07
2.07
5.07
6.07
7.07
7.08
8.07
9.06
9.07
10.07
11.07

(I still have Michael Crabtree, Kellen Winslow, Bernard Scott, Evan Royster, Greg Olsen, Vincent Brown, Ryan Grant on my roster to shop for extra picks, and I'm holding onto Rashad Jennings incase something happens to MJD)
