Nice call. To bad to since he probably could of got 10 yds running on the play he threw that last pick.

Blame it on Goat... I told my wife that Favre would try to be a hero at some point but would blow it by throwing a pick when the game was on the line... and he delivered on cue. Sorry Vikings fans, but I'm glad to see Brees make it to the big show.

That pass interference on the Saints' OT drive was classic!

RE: Colts to the Superbowl  (in reply to rainiergoats

It took me this long to be able to calm myself down to type. Both in a bad way (damn the Jets for losing), and a good way (Screw you, Favre). The Saints beating the Vikings was great, but now we have this to look forward to:

Archie Manning, one of New Orlean's favorite sons. Peyton, one of New Orlean's favorite sons. Does the father cheer for his team, or his son's team?

Myself, I'm rooting for the Saints. They lost steam, but I never got the impression they just laid down and quit. The Colts did, and for anyone but Denver, doing that makes me instantly root against them in some spectacular way. It's a disservice to the fans-- you know, the joes who shell out a hundred fifty bucks a head for tickets, parking, and food-- who came to watch the stars play and witness a credible game. Any time a pro team doesn't play their starters through the fourth quarter, then the fans should get a refund on their expenses for the game. You want to rest your starters? Fine, but don't expect everyone else to pay full price to watch a bunch of people they don't give a crap about.

If I were a Texan's fan, I would be livid at this point. They may not have had a chance in the playoffs, but even against a team with nothing real to play for, they had a tough week 17.

So go Saints. Beat the hell out of the Colts. Pick off Manning three times, and have a kick/punt returned, Bush. Football gods, enact justice for the disgrace Caldwell-- and others who rest starters-- are to the game and the spirit of competition. Go New Orleans!

You didn't say WHAT they would be named, either.

NFC runner up... so bitter, yet so fitting.

I'm gonna be in Vegas in about 3 weeks... I could bet on the Super Bowl and have my winnings waiting for me...

But now the hard part... who to pick to get me those winnings?

Colts by 4. I could see another 31-28 game with the Colts winning but not covering the spread.

The Colts take better care of the ball than Minn'y did last Sunday. Just based on how it went down, NO got outplayed offensively in a big way, and are fortunate to be in this position. Manning has the best O-line (as far as protections go) and recognizes coverages and blitz schemes better than anyone in the game. He's also got one of these Super Bowl thingys under his belt. I feel that the smart money takes the Colts and gives the 4 points. I reserve the right to change my mind, but Manning got put on his back several times in the first qtr against the Jets and after he made his adjustments didnt hardly get touched the rest of the game, which is not always easy against a 3-4 and having to guess where the 4th and 5th guys are coming from. Initially, Im riding with the experience and the guys who do it year in and out. If I felt that this one was going to be a game of FGs and big stops, Id take the Saints and the points, but those big stops this past Sundays were Minnesota miscues that Indy isnt likely to replicate. Just my initial feeling.

I already put 100 bucks on the Colts without thinking twice.

Manning has already dismantled the Ravens and Jets - #8 and #1 against the pass.

Saints were 26th against the pass. I figured I'd lock this one up quick before the spread goes higher which I entirely expect it to.

I'm taking the Saints. I look for it to be a high scoring thing, but they've got the opportunistic defense against very young receivers, and though I expect it to be a very good game (with a ton of points) I'll also shamefacedly admit that I've not been able to watch the Colts at all this postseason, but I'm gonna go with my gut (and my heart) and root for the Saints to get their first Lombardi

Watch some of the replays on NFL Network. Im watching the Jets/Colts game right now. Man, that D looks real enough and they havent given up a single point in the 2nd half this postseason and 20 in both games. I dont care if it is the Ravens and Jets. That's one hell of an accomplishment in the AFC.

RE: Colts to the Superbowl  (in reply to marcusash75

Saints win and kick off the most outrageous mardi gras week ever ever to be seen by spaceship earth!

Seriously, though, it'd be tough to bet against the Colts, but I'm starting to lean towards the Saints. Funny thing is, I was talking to my buddy about bets, and I used the exact word Arm uses above to describe the Saints D... opportunistic. I kinda feel like that's the X factor here.

I know the Colts played better defensive teams, but I feel like Minny and Arizona were more elite competition than the Ravens and Jets. It isn’t like Minny and Zona have weak defenses… just not quite as good as Ravens or Jets but at least Minny and Zona had potent offenses to balance (and HOF QBs). Jets/Ravens had their respective running games, but no real air attack (no Braylon doesn’t count). You are talking Joe Flacco and Mark Sanchez. How could a team like Indy NOT beat those two teams? And there’s no way those teams can come back once they are down big. Both Minny and Zona had the offenses to make a comeback … even Dallas for that matter who Minny beat down. In fact, and strangely enough, the NFC seems to have quite a few potent offenses these days that are anchored by opportunistic defenses.

Colts are definitely the smart bet. Classy org with a proven Super Bowl history like Marcus says, but I think history likes a good story... Saints finally pull it all together in the big game and become the darling story. Hurricane Katrina, possible relocation, Reggie Bush reborn, and all that jazz. Saints celebrate the beginning of Mardi Gras week with a Super Bowl victory. Brees gets his and says thanks to the Chargers for trading him away.

EDIT: And I'll take the over all day ... except shoot... now it's at -115 ... creepin' up.

We shall see. I just think that Indy has put a lot of people to sleep with how good and amazingly efficient and clean (and opportunistic, themselves) they have been all year long. I think they have wiggle room to make a few mistakes and still win. I think NO has to play almost perfect and still have to get a few bounces to go their way. That's a lot to ask against a team that doesnt give up sacks, takes care of the ball, and doesnt need to control the clock or score on defense to do it.

RE: Colts to the Superbowl  (in reply to rainiergoats

Fun Fact: The 49ers are the only team in the NFC West that hasn't been to the super Bowl in the last 10 years.

Less fun fact: The Raiders are the only team in the AFC West that *HAS* been to the Super Bowl in the last 10 years.

Fun Fact, Southern Style: The NFC South has had all four of its teams in the Super Bowl more recently than any other division (Falcons, 1998). Next come the NFC West (49ers, 1994), NFC East (Redskins 1991), AFC West (Chiefs 1969), and AFC East (Jets 1968). The AFC South (Jags, Texans), and both North divisions (Browns, Lions) are the only divisions where every team hasn't been to the Super Bowl at least once.

I just lost 100 bucks and you want to remind me the Browns have never been to a SuperBowl?

Want to kick my dog while you're at it?

I actually got one right-right on the nose. If not for that pick 6, I think the Colts were gonna win. Peyton driving for the tie...mojo was just heading that way.
