Fantasy Football Question about Adr...

Background Info:
I am in an 12 team league keeper league where you keep 8 guys each year. We have an auction every year and I have the most points to spend. You start 2 RB's and 3 wr's etc, pretty standard stuff.

Now my current RB's are L.Maroney, Jamal Lewis, Chester Taylor.

My question is what should I expect from Adrain Peterson? I dont watch a lot of college football but from what I hear he is great, but is a bit injury prone. I can get AP in our Keeper league but he will cost me a ton because there are so few other rookie RB's that are worth anything, and I also want to get Calvin Johnson.

Anyway let me know what you think.

That's a pretty weak RB corps, especially with the weakening of Chester because of AP. For the time being, Lewis and Maroney look to be pretty much full-time guys. I'm all about RB depth, especially in a keeper league, and AP is a pretty darned hot prospect, especially with the talent on that Viking line. But the problem is that he's going to be part of RBBC for at least this year, and likely years in the future. RBBC backs can be decent fantasy backs, but RBBC on top of injury proneness is a big red flag for me. I actually think that Lynch will be better fantasy-wise this year and a while into the future, as there's not going to be a lot of competition for carries up in Buffalo.

I'd be interested to see your receivers. I don't know a whole lot about college ball, but there's been nothing but raving about Calvin Johnson's skillset along with his size. He's also involved in the Mike Martz system, which always does well for receivers. Rookie receivers don't generally do very well fantasy-wise, but there are a lot of things pointing to Calvin Johnson being great for a lot of years.

I'd have to see the rest of your team to give you a firm answer on this topic (which, btw, probably belongs in the "Trade Talks, Waiver Wire & Keeper Leagues" forum, but no big deal)...nonetheless here's my take on it:

If you feel that your team is strong enough this year to contend for a title run, don't make a stab at AP. If you feel that your team is a year or two away from contending, spend the points on both he and Calvin (in either case, you should go for Calvin). The reasoning for this: unless the best-case scenario happens for your team, your RB corps is pretty anemic, and you're just going to confuse matters by picking up Chetty's new RBBC-mate. If you feel you have a legit title shot, spend the money on a legit #1 back. If you're in rebuild mode, pick up AP, and give him time to establish himself as the #1 back in Minny, and while he's doing so, try and pawn off Chetty on an unsuspecting owner for players to be named later.

AP will get you nothing, the guy will be good for a few games then be hurt for a few more. AP is the new Bo Jackson so much talent ended too soon by injurys.

I agree totally. Good kid, amazing to watch. Reminds me of Correll Buckhalter in every possible way. Fingers crossed for him. Either way, he's got a ton of guaranteed cash to take care of his family now.
