Ask The Commish.com - Top Value Picks of the 2009 NFL Draft

Wondering which individual picks in the draft were the best? While it is impossible to tell at this early stage, the Commish thought it would be interesting to use the method that Jimmy Johnson perfected to ascribe a specific point value to each position in the draft in hopes of translating draft selections to point values.

What we have done here is assigned a "Ranked Value" associated with where we have the players ranked. Meanwhile, we have also assigned a "Selected Value" associated with the spot at which the player was ultimately selected in the draft. The list below represents the players with the largest differential between where we had them projected to go, and where they were actually drafted. Clearly, using this formula, the San Francisco 49ers received the best value with their selection of Michael Crabtree with the 10th pick of the draft.
